Short answer
Fragrance covers odor and adds another scent for a client who may be sensitive to smells. Real odor control removes the source: enzyme treatment breaks down urine and other organic soil in the mattress, low-moisture cleaning avoids new dampness, and ventilation clears stale room air. We don't use fragrance to cover odors.
Key terms used on this page
- Odor masking:
- Covering a smell with fragrance instead of removing its source. The Carpet and Rug Institute warns that some odor products may simply mask the odor, which can reappear in high humidity.
- Enzyme cleaner:
- A cleaning product that uses enzymes to break down organic soils such as urine, sweat, vomit or blood. Several mattress makers mention them for urine stains, including Purple and Avocado. They are liquids, so how much is applied matters as much as what is applied. Sleep Sanitation uses enzyme treatment on urine and organic odor, sparingly.
In a client's room, fragrance is a common quick fix for odor. It doesn't remove the source, and it adds scent for someone who may already be sensitive to smells.

Remove the source
Odor masking hides odor; enzyme treatment breaks down the urine and organic soil causing it. See enzymes vs fragrance and urease, uricase and urine odor. Enzymes don't disinfect; see are enzyme cleaners disinfectants?
Don't add moisture
Low-moisture cleaning avoids the damp that brings odor back. See why urine odor comes back after a mattress dries.

Sleep Sanitation's view
This section is our view. We don't use fragrance to cover odors. Agencies that group visits with us for route efficiency can ask about agency rates. We carry a certificate of insurance, available on request, and run background checks under our hiring policy, including a national sex offender registry check. Sleep Sanitation serves Omaha, Lincoln and surrounding towns. Every visit includes dry vapor steam, HEPA vacuuming, UV-C light treatment, the built-in bed mite sensor on our JIGOO UV-C mattress vacuum and a moisture check before we leave. Enzyme treatment is used on urine and other biological jobs, and ordinary accident treatment is included in the $249 first-mattress price. Severe or biohazard contamination carries a surcharge, and we tell you before any work starts. Call or text (402) 512-5658, or email info@sleepsanitation.com.
