Reduces build-up on the mattress. It doesn't make a bed allergen-free or treat allergies.
People with a dust mite allergy react to proteins in dust “that comes from dust mite feces, urine or decaying bodies,” not to bites, per the American Lung Association. NIEHS calls dust mites “a big source of allergens” that “can worsen allergies and asthma.”
Two different jobs
Heat kills mites. Vacuuming removes allergen.
Heat handles the mites; vacuuming lifts the allergen debris they leave. The practice parameter says regular vacuuming “can help remove dust mite allergens,” and a 2005 study in Environmental Health Perspectives found physical interventions lowered mite allergen in bed dust. Humidity is “the most important factor” in whether a house has high mite levels.

Frequently asked questions
Will this cure my allergies?
Mattress sanitation isn't a medical treatment, so we don't make cure claims. What it does is reduce the bed mite debris in the surface you sleep on, which is part of the allergy-avoidance advice allergists give. For allergy or asthma questions, talk to your doctor or an allergist.
How often should a mattress be cleaned for bed mites?
We recommend twice a year. In one study, steam plus vacuuming kept allergen lower for up to 8 weeks, about twice as long as vacuuming alone. Between visits, encasements, hot-washed bedding and indoor humidity below 50 percent do the day-to-day work.

How long does a visit take?

Is this a medical treatment?

- Method
- A material inspection comes first: we read the law tag and check construction, fabric and stains before choosing the steam setting and pass speed. Seams, tufts, ridges and edges are steamed with low-moisture dry vapor steam, along with the top surface and all four sides. A JIGOO mattress vacuum with HEPA filtration lifts loosened debris and delivers UV-C light treatment. Enzymes are used for urine and organic odor. Organic cleaning methods are the default. Our technician removes the mattress protector during the visit and leaves you a one-time supply of special detergent sheets for washing it.
- Checks
- Every visit includes two checks: a moisture check after the job and the built-in bed mite sensor on the JIGOO UV-C mattress vacuum. The bed stays unmade until it is dry to the touch, and we run a moisture check before we leave.
- Optional
- 72-hour bedroom CO₂ testing is an optional service, booked on its own or added to a mattress visit. It's priced by quote, and it isn't a medical test.
- Records
- Every job is documented on a Service Summary: the mattress inspection (ticking, construction, edge support, settling by zone, stains and odors, preliminary and finishing bed mite scores, special care materials, mattress protector), the sanitation performed (mattress surface temperature verified at 212°F or higher with a temperature gun, glide rate) and technician confirmation. You receive a copy.
- Hygiene
- Technicians wear gloves and shoe booties. Between jobs, equipment is disinfected with sanitizing wipes and a bleach-water solution, and many tools are steam-sanitized.
