How to clean an RV bunk mattress

By Matthew Brunken · Updated October 24, 2026 · 1 min read · Editorial standards

Short answer

Vacuum bunks every trip, blot spills and accidents straight away and spot clean lightly. Bunks sit tight against walls and platforms, so lift them to check the underside. Kids' spills and accidents are included in our on-site cleaning, and each bunk is priced as an add-on.

HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment for organic odor, dry vapor steam and UV-C. We recommend cleaning twice a year.

Bunks are where the kids, the snacks and the wet swimsuits end up. They're also tucked against exterior walls on flat platforms, which is where condensation forms (Mattress Insider).

Every trip

  • Vacuum crumbs and sand out of the seams.
  • Blot accidents right away, then see mattress accidents for the low-moisture approach.
  • Lift each bunk at the end of a trip to let the underside breathe.

Every season

Wash the protectors and check each bunk and its platform for damp spots. If you find dark spots, see mold cleanup under an RV mattress. For kid-specific messes, see spills, crayons and slime on a kids' mattress.

We clean RV and camper mattresses on site

This section is our view. We come to your RV, camper or trailer where it's parked and clean the mattress in place: HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment on organic stains and odor, low-moisture dry vapor steam from our Italian-made Vapor Clean machines, UV-C light treatment and a moisture check. Underside treatment, for the side that sits on the bed deck, is +$50–$75. The first mattress is $199 Fall 2026 special (regularly $249). Add the house beds to the same visit: each additional king is $199, each full or queen is $179, and each bunk or kids' mattress is $149. A good rhythm is once before the season and once after, which lines up with our twice-a-year recommendation. Schedule your cleaning. Call or text (402) 512-5658, or email info@sleepsanitation.com.
