RV and camper mattress storage between seasons

By Matthew Brunken · Updated October 24, 2026 · 1 min read · Editorial standards

Short answer

Clean the mattress before you store the RV, leave it uncovered and dry, control moisture in the rig and add airflow under the mattress. In spring, air it out and check the underside before the first trip. We clean RV mattresses on site at both ends of the season.

HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment for organic odor, dry vapor steam and UV-C. We recommend cleaning twice a year.

The off-season is when RV mattresses pick up musty smells and underside spots.

Before you store

  1. Clean the mattress so body oils and spills aren't sitting for months.
  2. Wash and remove bedding.
  3. Control moisture. The EPA's guidance is that moisture control is the key to mold control (EPA).
  4. Add airflow underneath, such as a ventilated underlay (Mattress Insider).

In spring

Air it out, check the underside and deck, and see how to clean an RV mattress. For house mattresses in storage, see how to store a mattress in a storage unit or garage.

We clean RV and camper mattresses on site

This section is our view. We come to your RV, camper or trailer where it's parked and clean the mattress in place: HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment on organic stains and odor, low-moisture dry vapor steam from our Italian-made Vapor Clean machines, UV-C light treatment and a moisture check. Underside treatment, for the side that sits on the bed deck, is +$50–$75. The first mattress is $199 Fall 2026 special (regularly $249). Add the house beds to the same visit: each additional king is $199, each full or queen is $179, and each bunk or kids' mattress is $149. A good rhythm is once before the season and once after, which lines up with our twice-a-year recommendation. Schedule your cleaning. Call or text (402) 512-5658, or email info@sleepsanitation.com.
