Short answer
Remove solids, blot (don't rub) with paper towels, and keep added water to a minimum. Drool and vomit are organic matter, so the odor comes from residue in the fabric, which is what enzyme treatment targets. Pet odor treatment is included in our mattress price, along with normal stains.

HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment for organic odor, dry vapor steam and UV-C. We recommend cleaning twice a year.
Right away
- Lift off solids with a paper towel or spatula. Don't press them in.
- Blot with dry paper towels until nothing more transfers.
- Don't flood it. Pouring water or cleaner on the spot pushes residue deeper (where water goes in a mattress).
- Skip the fragrance. Scented sprays cover the smell without removing the residue (fragrance masking vs odor removal).
Why the smell lingers
Drool leaves saliva and oils in the fabric, and vomit leaves food and stomach contents. Both are organic residue, and residue is what holds odor. Enzyme treatment is made to break down organic residue (enzymes vs fragrance).
How we treat it
Inspection to find where the residue sits, HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment on the spot, low-moisture dry vapor steam and UV-C. Pet odor and normal stain treatment are included. For urine, see the pet urine and accidents hub.
