Sharing the bed with pets: hair, dander, fleas and paws

A pet on the bed brings hair, dander, paw dirt, drool and sometimes fleas. This hub covers how to keep a shared bed clean at home, what the CDC and EPA say about fleas, and how our cleaning resets the mattress, with pet odor treatment included.

Short answer

A pet on the bed adds hair, dander, outdoor dirt, drool, odor and sometimes fleas. Use a washable protector, wash bedding often in hot, soapy water as the EPA advises, vacuum the mattress, and have it professionally cleaned twice a year. Pet odor treatment is included in our mattress price. For fleas, the CDC advises treating every pet and the home together.
