Cleaning by Mattress Type

What kind of mattress do I have?

By Matthew Brunken · Updated October 24, 2026 · 1 min read · Editorial standards

Short answer

Check the law tag first. It lists the materials. Then feel it: memory foam sinks slowly, latex springs back quickly, and you can feel coils along the edge of an innerspring or hybrid. A pillow top has a sewn-on padded layer. Once you know the type, follow that type's care rules, or book a clean and we'll check it for you.

Every type, one low-moisture method

This section is our view. Memory foam, latex, hybrid and pillow-top mattresses all share one rule: keep water out of the core. Every Sleep Sanitation visit starts with a check of your care label and an inspection, then HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment on organic stains and odor, low-moisture dry vapor steam from our Italian-made Vapor Clean machines, UV-C light treatment and a moisture check before we leave. Stains, normal accidents and pet odor are included. The first mattress is $199 Fall 2026 special (regularly $249), any size. Each additional king is $199, each full or queen is $179, and underside treatment is +$50–$75. We recommend cleaning every mattress twice a year.
