How to clean a Tempur-Pedic mattress

By Matthew Brunken · Updated October 24, 2026 · 1 min read · Editorial standards

Short answer

Follow Tempur-Pedic's own care steps. Many current models have removable, washable covers. Tempur-Pedic recommends a cold wash and cool or air drying, with no bleach. The TEMPUR-Adapt and TEMPUR-Cloud covers are spot clean only. Never wash or soak the TEMPUR material itself. For a spill, blot, wash the cover if allowed, and air dry with a fan.

HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment for organic odor, dry vapor steam and UV-C. We recommend cleaning twice a year.

Which covers wash

Tempur-Pedic says the TEMPUR-ProAdapt, LuxeAdapt, ProBreeze, LuxeBreeze and ActiveBreeze have removable, washable covers, and the TEMPUR-Cloud and TEMPUR-Adapt "must be spot-cleaned only" (Tempur-Pedic).

How to wash the cover

"We recommend a cold temperature setting for machine washing and a cool setting for machine drying. Air-drying is best." Don't use chlorine or harsh stain removers (Tempur-Pedic).

If you spill on it

Tempur-Pedic's steps: blot without rubbing; remove and wash the cover if it's washable, or spot clean it if not; then let the mattress air dry with a fan blowing across it. TEMPUR material "should never be soaked, washed, or allowed to become wet" (Tempur-Pedic).

When to book
