How to clean a hybrid mattress

By Matthew Brunken · Updated October 24, 2026 · 1 min read · Editorial standards

Short answer

A hybrid mattress is foam or latex over a coil unit, so clean it like foam on top and keep water away from the coils. Vacuum, blot spills, spot clean lightly and air it out. Follow the care label. For odor, stains and accidents, a low-moisture professional clean is the safe reset.

HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment for organic odor, dry vapor steam and UV-C. We recommend cleaning twice a year.

Hybrids pair a foam or latex comfort layer with pocketed coils (how coils work, and why they rust). That pairing creates two goals: keep the foam from soaking, and keep moisture off the steel.

Routine care

  1. Strip and wash the bedding and protector (how to wash a protector).
  2. Vacuum the top, the sides and the seams. The sides are thinner and collect dust.
  3. Blot spills. Spot clean lightly with a barely damp cloth.
  4. Rotate it if the maker recommends that. Store and move it flat (can you store a mattress on its side).
