Short answer
We clean the mattress, not the protector, so the protector comes off first. Our technician removes it during the visit and leaves a one-time supply of special detergent sheets for washing it. The family washes it and puts it back on once the mattress is dry.

Key terms used on this page
- Protector detergent sheets:
- Special detergent sheets for washing a mattress protector. Our technician removes the protector during the visit and leaves a one-time supply.
- Waterproof protector:
- A removable, washable cover with a waterproof layer that sits under the sheet. It turns most accidents into laundry and keeps urine out of the mattress itself.
On every visit
What happens to the protector
- Our technician removes it
- We note it on the Service Summary
- We leave a one-time supply of special detergent sheets
- The family washes it and puts it back once the mattress is dry
A protector shields the mattress, which means it sits between our steam and the surface we need to reach.
Why it comes off
- Steam needs the mattress surface. We verify the mattress surface at 212°F or higher, and we can't do that through a protector.
- The protector needs its own wash. It goes in the washer, not under the steam head.
- We note it. The Service Summary records whether a protector was present and what type.
The detergent sheets
We leave the family a one-time supply of special detergent sheets for washing the protector. Washing it while we clean the mattress means both are fresh when the bed is made up again.
Putting it back
Once the mattress is dry, put the washed protector back on. We do a moisture check before we leave. Our mattress protectors hub covers types and care.
Sleep Sanitation's view
This section is our view. Agencies that group visits by area are route-efficiency partners and get reduced agency rates: request agency rates. We carry a certificate of insurance, available on request, and run background checks under our hiring policy, including a national sex offender registry check. Sleep Sanitation serves Omaha, Lincoln and surrounding towns. Every visit includes dry vapor steam with the mattress surface verified at 212°F or higher with a temperature gun, HEPA vacuuming, UV-C light treatment and a moisture check before we leave. Allow 1–2 hours per mattress. Our technician removes the mattress protector during the visit and leaves a one-time supply of special detergent sheets for washing it. Enzyme treatment is used on urine. Every visit ends with a Service Summary, and a copy can go to the agency with the client's or family's permission. The first mattress is $199 Fall 2026 special (regularly $249); additional mattresses in the same visit are $199 for a king or California king, $179 for a full or queen and $149 for a twin or kids bed. Severe soiling carries a surcharge, disclosed before any work starts. Call or text (402) 512-5658, or email info@sleepsanitation.com.
