Short answer
Scrape off solids, blot, and spot clean lightly with mild detergent, which helps break up fat. Food stains combine fat, sugar, protein and color, so they often need more than one approach. Stains are included in every visit.

HEPA vacuuming, enzyme treatment for organic odor, dry vapor steam and UV-C. We recommend cleaning twice a year.
Most food stains are mixtures. Chocolate, for example, combines fat, sugar and color. See also coffee, wine and tea stains.
What to do right away
- Scrape solids with a dull edge.
- Blot, don't rub. Press a dry white cloth on the spot to lift what's still on the surface.
- Mild detergent on a damp cloth to break up the fat.
- Keep it light. Work with a barely damp cloth; never pour liquid on a mattress.
What not to do
Don't use hot water on food with protein in it, and don't soak. For the general rules, see DIY mattress cleaning mistakes and the stain chemistry hub.
