Short answer
Follow the manufacturer's own care instructions. Newton says its outer cover is machine washed cold, alone, on delicate and tumble dried on low, with no bleach, and the core can be washed in the shower with soap and cool water or rinsed with a hose. Newton also warns against high heat. Other breathable brands have their own steps, so check yours.

Breathable crib mattresses are built differently from foam ones, so the usual crib advice doesn't fit.
What Newton says
From Newton's own care page (Newton Baby):
- Outer cover: "Machine Wash Cold, Alone, Use Delicate Cycle," "Tumble Dry Thoroughly On Low," "Do Not Bleach."
- Inner cover (encasement), where there is one: "Clean inner cover only if soiled," hand wash or spot clean with cool water, tumble dry on low, and do not hang dry.
- Core: "Wash in the shower with soap & cool water or rinse outside with a hose," shake out excess water, and stand it up in a well-ventilated area.
- Heat: Newton says not to use a dryer on high heat, a blow dryer or heating elements, because heat may shrink the cover and damage the mattress.

Where we fit
We follow the manufacturer's instructions, so for a fully washable mattress like Newton's, the washing steps above come first. A home visit is still the easy way to reset every other bed in the kids' rooms, from the toddler bed to the top bunk, at $149 for each additional kids' bed.
