What Shifman says about care
- Flip it. Shifman's care instructions say to "Turn your mattress once a month for the first six months and twice a year thereafter," alternating side-to-side and head-to-foot.
- Keep it dry. Shifman's FAQ says "The mattress should never become wet," and to blot spills with a towel and air dry with a fan.
- Keep it clean. The same FAQ notes that "Mattresses that become stained or unsanitary will void the mattress warranty."
What Savoir says about care
Savoir's mattress cleaning guide says to vacuum the topper and mattress with an upholstery attachment, paying "special attention to seams and the tufted petals," and to "Never soak your mattress or apply water or stain remover directly to the surface." Its goal: "use as little product and moisture as possible." Savoir recommends you "Aim to clean your bed thoroughly every 3 months."
How we clean it
- HEPA vacuum with the cover on. Top panel, borders and seams.
- Dry vapor steam in low-moisture passes. Heat reaches the cover and the layer just below it without soaking what's underneath.
- Spot treatment where you need it. Enzyme product applied sparingly and blotted, never poured.
- HEPA vacuum again. A second pass lifts what the heat loosened.
