What Naturepedic and Birch say about care
- Naturepedic. Its product care page says "Naturepedic adult mattresses and mattress toppers are spot clean only" and "Please note that any exposure to liquid may damage your mattress or topper and may void your warranty." Naturepedic recommends an organic waterproof protector pad.
- Birch. Its mattress instructions say "To clean your Birch mattress, use warm water to spot clean. We do not recommend that you remove the cover to clean."

How we clean it
- HEPA vacuum with the cover on. Top panel, borders and seams.
- Dry vapor steam in low-moisture passes. Heat reaches the cover and the layer just below it without soaking what's underneath.
- Spot treatment where you need it. Enzyme product applied sparingly and blotted, never poured.
- HEPA vacuum again. A second pass lifts what the heat loosened.
