Care transitions

The respite or caregiver bed

By Matthew Brunken · Updated October 27, 2026 · 1 min read · Editorial standards

Short answer

Overnight caregivers, respite workers and visiting family often sleep in a guest room or on a sofa bed that sees little care. Add it to the same visit as the main bed: additional mattresses are $199 for a king or California king, $179 for a full or queen and $149 for a twin.

Key terms used on this page

Care transition:
A move between care settings, such as coming home from a hospital, rehab or nursing home stay, or moving into assisted living.
Guest bed prep:
Getting a little-used bed ready for visitors: looking for stains and odor, airing the room, cleaning early enough to dry, then fresh linens and a protector. Our planning guidance.
Add-on mattress cleaning:
Mattress cleaning sold alongside another service, such as carpet or upholstery cleaning, which may use the same equipment. A neutral description of a service model, not a judgment of quality.

Other beds in the home

Include the caregiver bed

  • Guest room for an overnight aide or respite worker
  • Sofa bed or daybed near the person’s room
  • The bed visiting family uses
  • Added at additional-mattress rates

When care happens at home, more than one bed is in use. The caregiver's bed often gets the least attention.

Which beds to include

  • The guest room where an overnight aide or respite worker sleeps
  • A sofa bed or daybed near the person's room
  • The bed visiting family uses during a long stay

Pricing

Add these to the same visit as the main bed. Additional mattresses are $199 for a king or California king, $179 for a full or queen and $149 for a twin.

How often

We recommend twice a year for every mattress in regular use. See also guest beds and secondary beds.

Sleep Sanitation's view

This section is our view. Agencies that group visits by area are route-efficiency partners and get reduced agency rates: request agency rates. We carry a certificate of insurance, available on request, and run background checks under our hiring policy, including a national sex offender registry check. Sleep Sanitation serves Omaha, Lincoln and surrounding towns. Every visit includes dry vapor steam with the mattress surface verified at 212°F or higher with a temperature gun, HEPA vacuuming, UV-C light treatment and a moisture check before we leave. Allow 1–2 hours per mattress. Our technician removes the mattress protector during the visit and leaves a one-time supply of special detergent sheets for washing it. Enzyme treatment is used on urine. Every visit ends with a Service Summary, and a copy can go to the agency with the client's or family's permission. The first mattress is $199 Fall 2026 special (regularly $249); additional mattresses in the same visit are $199 for a king or California king, $179 for a full or queen and $149 for a twin or kids bed. Severe soiling carries a surcharge, disclosed before any work starts. Call or text (402) 512-5658, or email info@sleepsanitation.com.
